Mineral Processing Laboratory

According to the objectives of the center, mineral processing laboratory is the main one of the center, which uses a variety of devices and equipment to study the various methods of mineral processing on different ores. Here different parts and equipment of mineral processing laboratory are described as follows:

Sample preparation

In this part, comminution and sample preparation are performed which consists of two jaw crushers with the sizes of small and large, one cone crusher, one roll crusher,  Planetary  Micro Mill PULVERISETTE (Disc pulverizer), A Y-blender, Wet and Dry Rotary Sample Splitter  for powder and pulp samples respectively, some chute riffles, three ring pulverizer devices (Model: LM2), Ball and Rod mills for wet/ dry grinding, vacuum and electric ovens and some balances. After preparation, samples are delivered to other processing parts.

                           

Indices determination

This part is equipped with indices determination devices consisting as follows:

  • Autogenous Media Competency Mill, Determination Ores Competency for Autogenously Grinding Circuits, with the mill size of 6 *1 feet
  • Bond Impact Tester (Crushability Index Tester)
  • Abrasion Index Test device, Determination of Bond Abrasion Index
  • Bond Rod Mill, Determination of Bond Rod Mill Grindability Index
  • Bond Ball Mill, Determination of Bond Ball Mill Grindability Index

 

 

                                                  

Determination of particle size distribution

In this part particle size distribution is determined by applying these following devices:

a) Laser Particle Size Analyzer; Laser particle size analyzer (LPSA) is the practical instrument for simple, rapid, and precise measurement of particle size in wet and dry methods (Mastersizer 2000S ( Hydro)- Scirocco (dry)). This instrument can provide statistical data of size distribution between 0.02 to 2000 µm.

b)  Cyclosizer; Model:  M12, Screen analyzer of material (4-50 micron)

f) Ro-tab Screen Analyzer 450 mm; Manufacturer: W.S-Tyler, US, Model:  RX-29-10, Application: Screen analyzer for dry material using vibration & impact

g) Various sieves able to determine particle size from 20 µm to 10 cm.

 

 

Gravity Separation

In this part, minerals based on the difference between their specific gravities are separated physically.

a) Jig Separator; Manufacturer: Unal-Turky; Model:  Hartz, Application: gravity concentration of materials in wet method Capacity:  At least 3 kg for each test; Particle size of Feed: -10+1 mm, Changeable frequency with altering the piston position

b)Shaking Table; Manufacturer: Wilfely, England, Model:  13 B, Application: gravity concentration of materials in wet method, Capacity:  At least 3 kg for each test, Particle size of Feed: -3mm+0.075mm

c)Slime Table; Manufacturer: Mozley- England, Application: gravity concentration of fine materials in wet method

d)Knelson Separator; Manufacturer: Knelson Concentrator-Canada, Model:  KC-MD3, Application: gravity concentration of materials in wet method using centrifugal force, Capacity:  At least 12 kg for each test,  Maximum particle size of Feed: 1.7 mm, Cone Diameter: 3 in. Max. Solid rate:45 kg/hr

Max.water flow rate: 0.34 m3/hr

e)Air Table; Manufacturer: Oliver –US, Model:  30 DC, Application: gravity concentration of materials in dry method using Air, Capacity:  At least 10 kg for each test, Particle size of Feed: +30 mesh

Magnetic separation

In this part based on Minerals' magnetism, Ferromagnetic Minerals are separated from others physically.

f)Isodynamic Laboratory Separator; Isodynamic Laboratory Separators make sensitive separations of minerals or other grains according to magnetic susceptibility, even of materials not usually thought of as magnetic.

g)SATMAGAN Balance; Manufacturer: Corrigan, Canada, Model: 135, Application: Measurement of the magnetic moment of the samples.

 

Flotation

In this part based on physical and chemical properties, valuable minerals are floated and recovered.

Hydrometallurgy

In this part, based on chemical properties, metals can be extracted from solution.
